UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS AT URBANA-CHAMPAIGN

The Engineering & Construction Services Facilities Information Resources Unit at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign seeks an Academic Hourly to assist with maintaining the University’s space records data. Facilities Information Resources (FIR) maintains documentation and information systems related to campus infrastructure, and offers value-added custom services to enhance campus preparedness, awareness, knowledge and efficiency.  The department is comprised of three units:  GIS, Records, and Space Inventory.

Under the supervision of the Geographic Information Systems Specialist this position will assist with daily operations related to the University’s Geographic Information System (GIS). This will include maintenance of the University’s GIS, global positioning systems (GPS) data collection and computer aided design drafting (CADD) for documenting and maintaining the University’s infrastructure.

Duties and Responsibilities Include:

  • Use ESRI ArcGIS Desktop software to perform updates to SDE Database
  • Create custom GIS maps for F&S staff and campus customers
  • Coordinate with Utility Distribution, F&S Trades staff and contractors for GPS data collection.
  • Use GPS equipment and real time kinematic (RTK) technology to collect data
  • Conduct fieldwork to verify facilities information
  • Use Autodesk software to update utility distribution and production systems drawings
  • Create custom CADD drawings for F&S and campus customers
  • Train student staff on use of CADD & GIS applications, and GPS equipment
  • Document, create and maintain work process procedures for CADD, GIS and GPS
  • Assist the GIS Specialist with developing standards and process that promote efficiency and productivity
  • Assume related additional duties to further the mission of the unit

Education Requirement:

  • Bachelor’s Degree

Experience:

  • Experience working with ESRI ArcGIS Desktop, AutoCAD or both
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office suite (ie: EXCEL, WORD, POWER POINT and VISIO)
  • Basic computer skills and the ability to learn new software and computer systems
  • Strong customer service values and skills, creative problem solving skills
  • Excellent organization skills; ability to prioritize workload, work independently with minimum supervision, take initiative; and attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and a willingness to learn

Preferred:

  • Experience with GPS data collection
  • Experience with PYTHON, JAVASCRIPT, HTML

Knowledge Requirements:

  • Basic knowledge and  understanding of utility distribution systems and the ability to read site plan documents

This is a full-time, NOT benefit eligible, Academic Hourly Position. Anticipated start date is as soon as possible following the closing date. Salary is commensurate with qualifications.
