A national competition to minimize waste and reduce the amount of material going to landfill.
The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign will host an e-waste collection event as part of RecycleMania on March 18 from 2:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. RecycleMania is a national competition to minimize waste and reduce the amount of material going to landfill. Three locations will be used for the e-waste collection event: the Allen Hall circle drive, Ikenberry Commons at Euclid Avenue, and a vehicle drop-off behind the Illinois Sustainable Technology Center (ISTC) in Research Park.
Personal electronics will be accepted free of charge including anything that has a plug or runs on batteries. University-owned inventory will not be permitted.
In an effort to reduce traffic congestion at the collection sites, volunteers will help pick up material using bicycles and carts (E-cyclers). Buildings participating in the event can begin gathering e-waste on March 18 and the E-cyclers will transport that material to the collection sites. Larger e-waste will be delivered by vehicle drop-off to the ISTC.
All e-waste collected will be recycled by a vendor that is R2 and E-steward certified. The weight of the material collected will be recorded and reported as part of the national RecycleMania competition. Additional information can be found by visiting the RecyleMainia website or on the event’s Facebook page.
