Sustainability is a systemic part of Facilities & Services and is critical to the work of all 1200 employees dedicated to preserving and maintaining the 647 buildings and campus grounds. We provide all physical plant, utility, operational, and essential services to sustain an environment that fosters research, teaching, and public engagement.
Our work incorporates sustainability in everything from simple ideas like using low-flow water fixtures to complex initiatives such as dedicated energy conservation teams on campus.
Employees, students, and community members all help define and implement our dynamic, multi-disciplinary approach. After pledging carbon neutrality by 2050, we worked together to develop a strategy that includes energy conservation, waste management, active transportation, and construction best practices, as well as future innovation and enhanced sustainability education and research.
F&S is proud to be an integral part of helping Illinois realize a sustainable future.
