Automated External Defibrillators
Automated External Defibrillator (AED) units are devices for use by trained responders, either volunteer or professional, in medical emergencies for heart attack victims. On campus, there are AED units in physical fitness facilities operated by the Division of Campus Recreation and the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics, in each Residence Hall Complex, and in various other locations such as Krannert Center for the Performing Arts and the Illini Union.
Training for users of AED's is required every two years and training is provided through local resource hospitals, the Red Cross (217-351-5861), or on campus through the Division of Campus Recreation (217-333-3806).
that govern AED use in Illinois are found in the "Laws and Rules" section of the Illinois Department of Public Health site http://www.idph.state.il.us
