Buildings are selected for retrocommissioning using multiple criteria, with high energy consuming buildings as higher priorities. Criteria may include:
- High energy consumption
- Condition of existing temperature control equipment
- Department participation
- Retrocommissioning team evaluation
Project funding is obtained through student fees provided to Facilities & Services. For some larger projects, funding is supplied from deferred maintenance resources provided the projects are also a part of the deferred maintenance backlog. Due to its success in utility cost avoidance and energy reductions, Retrocommissioning has been awarded grants from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO).
