UIUC COVID-19 INFO
UIUC Visitors
COVID-19 Vaccination/Testing
There are no COVID-19 vaccination/testing requirements for visitors. However, visitors from outside the campus community are encouraged to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 if they are able to do so. If visitors are unvaccinated, they are welcome to utilize the SHIELD CU testing program.
Limited Access in Academic Buildings
Academic buildings will be monitored through spot checking by Wellness Support Associates (WSAs) during hours when classes are being held. University hosts or venue organizers are expected to escort invited guests and visitors into these buildings. Visitors should consult with the unit, host or venue organizer for gaining entry into these facilities.
Guest Speakers in Class
Guest speakers from within the campus community should be treated like any other instructor. Guest speakers from outside the campus community should be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 if they are able to do so. If guest speakers are unvaccinated, the expectation is that they have received a recent negative COVID-19 test. They are welcome to utilize the SHIELD CU testing program. Instructors who invite guest speakers are responsible for communicating these expectations to them. However, instructors should not be collecting any vaccination information or documentation.
COVID-19 Face Covering Guidelines
Beginning Monday, February 28, 2022
- ▪ Face coverings will still be required in classrooms during in-person class time. They will not be required in other sections of buildings that have classrooms.
- ▪ Face coverings will no longer be required indoors EXCEPT:
- ▫ Face coverings will still be required in healthcare facilities. For example, these include COVID-19 testing sites, McKinley Health Center, Counseling Center, etc.
- ▫ Face coverings will still be required in spaces governed by the federal mandate. For example, these include Willard Airport, Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District (MTD) buses, etc.
- ▫ Some university events may still require face coverings as dictated in contracts. For example, the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts will continue to require face coverings at certain ticketed events until further notice.
- ▪ There are to be no additional expectations for face coverings for units, facilities and events.
- ▪ Individuals are always welcome to wear a face covering to protect themselves.
Face Coverings & Research Labs
- ▪ Face coverings are not required in research labs unless non-COVID-related PPE is needed in the research environment. The Illinois Laboratory Safety Guide provides guidance.
- ▪ If a respirator is required, compliance with the Illinois Respiratory Program administered by Safety and Compliance is mandatory. Laboratory Safety or Biological Safety audits of individual laboratories and the specific procedures used in those labs determine if respiratory protection is necessary.
One-on-One Meetings
Individuals who are not comfortable meeting one-on-one in their offices without face coverings may do the following:
- ▪ The person requesting the meeting wears a mask. You may consider wearing an N95 mask. According to the CDC, when worn consistently and properly, N95 masks provide the highest level of protection to the wearer.
- ▪ When setting up the meeting, request that the other individual wears a mask.
- ▪ If they decline, you can ask about having the meeting in a larger space.
- ▪ If they decline, and there is no larger space, you can consider moving your meeting online.
