Improvements to utilities infrastructure adjacent to the intersection of Oregon Street and Gregory Street in Urbana will necessitate various street and sidewalk closures until the beginning of the semester. Due to repeated weather delays, the steam tunnel rehabilitation work is now anticipated for completion the week of August 18th—although that is subject to change if severe weather causes more schedule adjustments.
Please be aware that during these construction activities, through traffic will be restricted for vehicles:
- Traveling westbound on Oregon Street from Lincoln Avenue
- Traveling southbound on Gregory Street from Illinois Street
Additionally, a turn-only route will be established on Oregon Street for eastbound traffic from Goodwin Avenue. extending to Gregory Street.
Sidewalk closures will necessitate pedestrian reroutes between the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts and Spurlock Museum, as well as along with the north and east sides of the intersection of Oregon Street and Gregory Street. Access to all university properties, businesses, and residential areas will be maintained at all times.
Thanks for your continued patience while traveling in this area as crews perform these vital infrastructure upgrades to support campus operations.
