Campus Street Project Information

The purpose of the Multimodal Corridor Enhancement (MCORE) Project is to create a more sustainable transportation system that works better for all modes of transportation, while improving critical linkages and basic infrastructure. This is a collaborative effort by project partners including the City of Champaign, the City of Urbana, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and the Champaign Urbana Mass Transit District (MTD).

PROJECT 4 UPDATE

Starting August 3, 2020, the west leg of the intersection of Springfield Avenue and Wright Street will be closed to allow for the storm sewer installation across Springfield Avenue. Westbound Springfield Avenue traffic will be diverted north onto Wright Street and up to University Avenue. Eastbound Springfield Avenue traffic will be diverted north onto Fourth Street and up to University Avenue.

During this phase of construction, it is highly recommended that vehicles traveling through campus seek alternate routes across Wright Street. The work will take approximately one to two weeks to complete, depending on weather.  For more information see the news release from the City of Champaign and the project update from Wednesday, August 4.
