2018 Campus Summer Construction Project Map and Descriptions

May 21, 2018

CHAMPAIGN, IL – Substantial completion of Everitt Laboratory and construction activities for the Siebel Center for Design at Illinois, the Bruce D. Nesbitt African American Cultural Center, the Illinois Street Residence Hall Dining Facility, and Illinois Football Performance Center highlight the more than 50 capital improvement projects transforming the Urbana campus this summer.

The group of projects will also feature restroom remodels, HVAC enhancements, roof replacements, LED upgrades, and classroom and laboratory modernizations. Working with professional services consultants and campus stakeholders, F&S develops May-August construction phasing for campus facility and infrastructure projects when practical to minimize potential inconveniences for students, faculty, and staff.

Siebel Center for Design at Illinois
This project will construct a new 60,000 GSF design center facility in central campus. The center will be the point of convergence for the campus community to get inspired, dream, conceptualize, invent, create, and innovate.

Bruce D. Nesbitt African American Cultural Center

After almost 50 years in various locations, the center will soon have its first permanent home on the Urbana campus at the corner of Mathews Avenue and Nevada Street. Check in on construction progress via the project webcam at https://oiir.illinois.edu/bnaacc/new-bnaacc-project/construction-cam.

Illinois Street Residence HALL (ISR) Dining Facility – Renovation & Addition
The project includes increasing the facility’s dining space by more nearly 36,000 GSF to serve 1,179 residents as well as visitors. The dining building will also feature meeting, group study, recreational, laboratory, and library space. During this period, dining services for ISR residents will be provided at the Illini Union.

ILLINOIS Football Performance Center
Construction of the new performance center at the northeast corner of Memorial Stadium, adjacent to the Irwin Indoor Football Facility, will continue. When opened in 2019, the facility will house football team rooms, locker rooms, a sports medicine area, strength training areas, and offices.

Multimodal Corridor Enhancement (MCORE) Project work on Green, White, and Wright streets will intensify through the summer with vehicular and pedestrian traffic impacts expected for Projects 1-3. More information and project updates are at http://mcoreproject.com.

Project 1

The north half of Green Street from Goodwin Avenue to Lincoln Avenue is closed to westbound traffic. Westbound Green Street traffic will use a marked detour route via Springfield Avenue. The entire street will be repaved and the closure configuration may change throughout the summer.

Project 2
Green Street between Third Street and Fourth Street is closed until mid-August.

Project 3
Wright Street between Springfield Avenue and White Street is closed, and Wright Street is reduced to one-way traffic northbound from Springfield Avenue to White Street until mid-August.

Street and sidewalk reconstruction between Fourth Street and the Champaign/Urbana city limit will cause Pennsylvania Ave to be closed through mid-August.
