Altgeld Hall Chimes Removal Work This Week

As part of the Altgeld Hall Exterior Renovation (Phase II), White’s Clock and Carillon Northeast, Inc. (Pulaski, NY) will perform the removal of the bells on Tuesday, December 17, and Wednesday, December 18. The lifting and lowering work will include rigging the bells for safe transport to a nearby trailer. The inner workings of the bells and the rest of the chimes system will be disassembled and placed in protective storage bins before the bells are piloted from the top of the tower via crane.

Along with the forthcoming chimes restoration work, Altgeld Hall tower structural and roofing improvements will continue into 2025. Overall, the phase remains on track for substantial completion next year. More information about the Illini Hall Replacement and Altgeld Hall Renovation project is available on the F&S website.
