If you couldn’t make it to Light the Night last semester, there’s another chance for you to grab a free light set and get ready to ride at night this spring.
Celebrate Bike for Earth Day on Tuesday, April 21, at one of four campus locations by picking up a set of lights, registering your bicycle, or learning more about the local bike community. You MUST bring your bicycle to receive a free light set (while supplies last). Everyone who stops by will also be entered into a raffle with the chance to win a new helmet and U-lock and receive a free T-Shirt while supplies last.
Stations will be open between 4 and 7 p.m. at the following locations:
- Alma Mater Plaza
- Ikenberry Commons (bike shelter next to Flagg Hall)
- Intersection of Green Street and Lincoln Avenue
- National Soybean Research Center
Volunteers are needed to assist at the four locations. Thanks for your continued support of Bike at Illinois and for making annual events a success! In case of inclement weather, the event will be moved to Wednesday, April 22, from 4 to 7 p.m.
The second annual Bike for Earth Day is a part of the university’s Earth Month schedule.
Protecting Your Bike
You can also conveniently register your bicycle at Bike for Earth Day. The one-time $10 registration fee will help protect your bicycle by adding it to the 529 Garage national database. You will also receive a 529 Shield (registration tag) to place on your bike for added theft deterrence. Per the University Bicycle Ordinance, bicycle registration is mandatory for all bicycles parked or operated on campus, including those owned by students, staff, faculty, university departments, community members, and bike share vendors.
