The Champaign County Freedom Celebration (CCFC) will once again launch Fourth of July fireworks from Lot E14 (located west of the State Farm Center) to celebrate Independence Day. Because of CCFC preparation activities, Lot E14 and the adjoining E14 Shuttle Lot will close at 7 a.m. on Friday, July 3, as the primary event staging area, and reopen on Monday, July 6.
Day of Approved Street Closures
Street closures will be in place for the CCFC on July 4, including roads surrounding Lot E14. The 5K race events begin at 9:05 a.m. (register to run by 8:45 a.m.), and the parade begins at 11:05 a.m. in Lot E14 at First Street and Kirby Avenue. This year, the parade will feature a new route. First, it heads east on Kirby Avenue/Florida Avenue to Lincoln Avenue. Then it turns north on Lincoln to Illinois Street, where it ends near the Illinois Street Residence Halls in Lot D9.
Evening Activities and Entertainment
The evening entertainment begins at 6 p.m. on a stage along Kirby Avenue between First Street and Oak Street. Captain Rat and the Blind Rivets perform at 7 p.m. There will also be food trucks and kid-friendly activities. The fireworks begin at dusk (approximately 9:15 p.m.). For more information, including the full event schedule and maps, visit the CCFC website.
