John Street Between Wright Street and Sixth Street will be closed to support construction activities for the new facility on the site of the former Illini Hall.
To facilitate construction activities for the new facility at the site of the former Illini Hall (725 S. Wright Street), the following road closures will be implemented through next fall :
- John Street is closed between Wright Street and Sixth Street
- Wright Street is closed between Green Street and John Street except for:
- Local traffic
- MTD buses
The closures began on Monday, August 24, 2026, and will extend until Friday, September 3, 2027. Access will be maintained to all local properties, including university facilities.
