To support the final phase of the Gies Memorial Stadium scoreboard project, all lanes of Kirby Avenue between First Street and Fourth Street will be closed to traffic from Wednesday, August 26, to Saturday, August 29.
Signage will be placed along Kirby Avenue to notify vehicle operators of the closure and traffic reroutes for this section of the street. Motorists and bicyclists are encouraged to use alternatives such as St. Mary’s Road (to the south) and Peabody Drive or Gregory Drive (to the north), as appropriate, to avoid the closure when traveling in this area of the Urbana campus. The sidewalk on the south side of Kirby Avenue, between Gies Memorial Stadium and the State Farm Center, will remain open throughout the project activities.
Thank you for your continued patience while traveling through construction zones and for giving contractors sufficient room to perform this vital facility work. Additional closure information is available on the F&S website. For university-related questions, contact Transportation Systems Manager Stacey DeLorenzo, 217-300-1750.
