This month, the university will clear the excess growth from plants, bushes, and trees near the natural gas transmission pipeline right-of-way. F&S regularly maintains areas along the campus pipeline from Monticello to Champaign to ensure safe operation, retain access points, and protect the area’s ecological balance from undergrowth and invasive species.

Regular pruning and removal activities are vital to controlling the continued expansion of root systems that could potentially damage infrastructure. The proactive maintenance will occur at the following locations:

  • West of First Street and Windsor Road, Champaign (by the Illinois Fire Service Institute)
  • West of Duncan Road and Curtis Road, Champaign (close to Interstate 57)
  • Bucks Pond Road and N935 East Road,  Monticello (north of Lodge Park)
  • N1400 East Road and E1900 North Road, White Heath (adjacent Camp Creek)
  • E1900 North Road and Eloise Lane, White Heath (next to Interstate 72)

Thanks for your assistance and cooperation as crews perform work in these areas over the next several weeks. For questions, contact the F&S Service Office fsserviceoffice@illinois.edu, 217-333-0340.
