F&S welcomes Amy Kyung-Eun Breslin, the associate director of the university’s Asian American Cultural Center, as the next Noontime Knowledge virtual event guest speaker on Wednesday, February 25, at noon. Breslin’s topic, “From Korea to Champaign—Lunar New Year Soup and Stories,” will explore the Lunar New Year Festival, stories, and traditions through a Korean diasporic lens, while considering the many ways people across the pan-Asian community celebrate this event. Based on the lunar calendar, Lunar New Year falls on the second new moon after the winter solstice, and thus may fall between January 21 and February 20 in any given year. This year, it was celebrated on Tuesday, February 17.
