Documents
Faculty and staff required to obtain a respirator or medical surveillance examination in fiscal years 2026 and 2027, and who have traditionally used Carle Occupational Medicine, must now use SafeWorks, located at 1806 N. Market Street, Champaign (map). Presently, SafeWorks is the only local healthcare provider authorized to perform these examinations. This change does NOT affect anyone currently using online vendor options for respiratory medical clearances.
Individuals are enrolled in the University Respiratory Protection Program and/or Medical Surveillance Program if they perform work-related tasks that might reasonably be anticipated to cause occupational exposure to potential hazards, including physical, biological, chemical, and radiological hazards. Eligibility for an examination may also arise when monitoring reveals levels of a particular hazard that exceed the limits established by applicable regulatory requirements, guidelines, or standards of practice.
For questions about the program, please contact your designated safety professional or the F&S Occupational Safety & Health department.
