F&S and the Parking Department identify and collect unwanted bicycles and personal micromobility devices (e.g., e-scooters) left on campus at the beginning of the summer. Last year, almost 225 bicycles were recovered during the annual roundup! Those bikes and devices are temporarily stored and, if not reclaimed by their owners, donated later to extend equipment lifecycles and reduce environmental impact.
Orange Sticker Tagging This Week
All bicycles and e-scooters remaining on university property have been tagged with an orange sticker this week to help identify whether they are still in use. If your bicycle or e-scooter has this sticker, you must remove it by Wednesday, June 24, to confirm its active status; otherwise, it will be impounded. Individuals who don’t take this action and want to reclaim their bicycles or devices later this year will be charged a $40 fee. They must also be registered in the community-wide Project 529 database before being returned.
Bike Donation Made Easy
If you no longer need your bicycle, don’t leave it lying around. You can easily donate it yourself to the Campus Bike Center (51 E. Gregory Drive, Champaign) or the Bike Project of Urbana-Champaign (202 S. Broadway Avenue, room 24). No appointment is required. Donations may be tax-deductible, and the donated bikes will be refurbished or recycled, with as many parts as possible reused.
