Elevator mechanics maintain and repair elevators and perform any alterations required to meet the safety and usability needs of the campus.
The elevator mechanics also maintain dumbwaiters and wheelchair lifts.
Elevator mechanics conduct elevator inspections and tests mandated by the Illinois Elevator Safety Act to maintain a current Certificate of Operation (CO) for each conveyance unit on campus. They also work cooperatively with the high voltage electricians and the Illinois Office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM) to perform fire safety testing
