Bicycles Will Be Collected This Month

Bike share partners Veo and Bird will begin collecting their bicycles across campus and the cities this month for their respective winter management and maintenance programs. The tentative relaunch for most of the bikes will be at the end of spring break on Sunday, March 23, 2025.

A select number of bikes will be left on campus during finals week for students, faculty, and staff to use through the end of the semester.

For questions or to leave feedback, contact Veo or Bird customer service. Further information about bike sharing is available on the Bike at Illinois website.

Eco-Counter Initiative

Orange Eco-Counter post installed near the Morrow Plots on the Urbana campusThis semester, 13 additional Eco-Counters were installed in primary campus locations to help track the number of cyclists and pedestrians using a given area. For example, the counters tracked over 37,000 bicycles at the intersection of Armory Avenue and Sixth Street in October. The Student Sustainability Committee funded this work, which satisfies Multimodal Corridor Enhancement Project (MCORE) reporting requirements and helps F&S better understand current transportation trends on the Urbana campus. The data will be utilized to prioritize resource and infrastructure improvements to the university transportation network. More in-depth statistics are available for campus researchers by contacting Sustainable Transportation Assistant Sarthak Prasad, 217-300-9575.

Protect Your Bike Year-Round

the University Bicycle Ordinance, bicycle registration is mandatory for all bicycles parked or operated on campus. As the winter break nears, ensure your bicycle is protected along with others in the local bike community by joining 529 Garage’s national database registration system. Once registered, owners can pick up a 529 Shield (registration decal) at various locations.
