F&S’ strategic objectives include supporting engagement, connecting with the community, and inspiring the next generation of students to pursue careers in the facilities management and the utilities and energy services industries.
Since 2015, Abbott Power Plant has collaborated with Ashlynn Stillwell, associate professor of civil and environmental engineering in the Grainger College of Engineering, to host “Girl Power” with the Girl Scouts of Central Illinois. The interactive event highlights science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) education and features facility tours and hands-on demonstrations in water, energy, electricity, chemistry, and physics.
Girl Scouts of Central Illinois serves about 10,000 girls across 38 counties with service centers in Bloomington, Decatur, Peoria, Springfield, and Champaign-Urbana.
Additionally, if you’ve never visited Abbott Power Plant, F&S’ Utilities & Energy Services offers ongoing tour opportunities to the campus community upon request.
