Sustainability staff provide leadership, coordination, promotion, reporting, and a point of contact for several sustainability initiatives managed by F&S departments. F&S is proud to be an integral part of helping Illinois realize a sustainable future through the implementation of the Illinois Climate Action Plan (iCAP) and related projects. Through collaborations with the Institute for Sustainability, Energy, and Environment (iSEE), F&S continuously works to help the campus achieve Climate Leadership Commitments.
- Sustainable transportation
- Resilient Grounds and Landscapes, including coordination of Tree Campus USA.
- Zero Waste and Recycling
- Clean and Renewable Energy, including solar, wind, biomass, and geothermal
- Energy Conservation, including the award-winning RetroCommissioning program, started in 2007
- LEED Certifications, with the first LEED certified building achieving Platinum in 2009
- Green Stormwater Infrastructure
- Sustainability education and behavior change, such as the International Freezer Challenge
- Academic and Research Collaborations
